Under 9s V Wrenthorpe Match Report

24/07/21

League: Heavy Woollen

For the first time this season we played Wrenthorpe Under 9s. Our home leg was one of those cancelled due to bad weather at the beginning of the season!

We had another first today with Florence playing in the team after been out for a while with an injury! Great to have her involved!

Harry captained today's game for the second time this season. Wrenthorpe won the toss and opted to field first.

We started the innings with the Mitchell brothers (Noah & Oscar) who did a great job against some excellent bowling. They scored 19 runs between them to get the team up and running! Florence and Holly were up next and added another 12 to the run count and was really unlucky not to get more. Some serious power in them shots girls!! Well done! Harry & Ethan were up next scoring another 14 to add to the total and kept the wicket count clean! Top job! Carlton finished their innings with Henry and Marcus who scored an impressive 43 runs! Just WOW. We have been working on a 'pull shot' in training and the boys brought this to the game. Great to see. All in all a really good innings for Carlton against some excellent bowling and fielding from Wrenthorpe.

When it was our turn to field we asked the team to focus on two things. The first was to continue the great work we had done to keep the number of wide balls down by bowling to line and length. The second was to see if we could take some high catches. This was something we felt we needed to improve on after the previous weeks games and something we was working on in training a few days before.

The team did a great job overall but was up against some top batting from Wrenthorpe. We managed to keep wides to less than 10 and took two amazing high catches from Marcus and Noah! A special mention to Ethan who had an excellent game also. Had a great two overs and worked hard for the team when fielding. Great job Ethan.

Final Score Wrenthorpe 292 Carton 268

Wrenthorpe were a great team and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season 👍
