History
Sport has always played an important part in the small village of Carlton. In 2017 Carlton celebrated its 150th anniversary. You can view our history below:
Timeline from 1867 - 2020:
1867 – The earliest known game. Carlton makes 33 runs against Lofthouse on Dick Marshall’s field off Pitfield Road, now Ashton Crescent.
1893 – Carlton Cricket Club are founder members of the Woodlesford and District League.
1922 – The Town Street site is bought from Major Calverley of Oulton Hall for £275.
1926 – The new ground was complete and ready for action.
1941 – Carlton wins their first Hepworth Cup and goes on to win it a further 13 times: in 1961, 1963, 1967, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1992 and 1995.
1964 – Carlton 2nd XI wins their first Wood Cup and goes on to it win 9 more times: in 1965, 1968, 1970, 1975, 1978, 1982, 1983, 1988 and 1992.
1965 – Carlton wins the Leeds League title for the first year.
1970 – 1st fundraising BBQ held in Oldroyd’s rhubarb sheds for the new clubhouse. 1000 tickets sold. 50 club members helped to organise. Record bar takings were recorded!
1973 – The present clubhouse opens with beer at 13p a pint.
1973 – Carlton wins prestigious H J Knutton trophy.
1974 – Ken Oldroyd becomes Chairman of the club.
1977 – Jubilee Lounge extension opens to commemorate Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
1985 – Carlton wins Leeds League title for second time and retains it in 1986.
1991 and 1996 – Carlton wins League title again.
1991 – First overseas player, Evan Marshall, joins Carlton from New Zealand.
1992 – Peter Hartley scores club record 152 runs which stands until 2016, when his eldest son Daniel, beats it by 1 run against Wrenthorpe.
1999 – Carlton joins Central Yorkshire League.
1999 – Carlton wins prestigious Jack Hampshire trophy for first time beating Methley in the final.
2000 – Carlton wins Division 1 title and Yorkshire Council Supplementary Cup, and again in 2002 and 2006.
2013 – Carlton 2nd XI win their first Wheatley Cup in 2013 and then again in 2015.
2016 – The Central Yorkshire League and Bradford League merge and go under the name of The Bradford Premier League where Carlton are placed in the third tier.
2016 - Carlton wins Tom Mather’s Bradford League Ground of the Year award.
2017 – Carlton reaches 150 year anniversary. Events were held throughout the year including a fixture against the MCC.
2019 – Dominican overseas player Kesrshaski John Lewis breaks the Carlton and Bradford League batting record by scoring 237 not out away Jer Lane.
2019 – Carlton win Bradford League Championship 2 and are promoted to the 2nd tier going the league season unbeaten.
2020 – The Covid-19 global pandemic meant only half a season could be played with no promotion or relegations.
