Under 9s V Wakefield St Michaels Match Report

17/07/2021

League: Heavy Woollen

This morning game was against Wakefield St Michaels. This was the first time the two clubs and teams have met this season! Sun cream on, hats on, plenty of water and we were ready to go!

William Dobson captained the team for the first time this year! William won the toss and opted for Carlton to field first!

No tee’s are used in the heavy woollen league so wides and no balls count for 2 runs, so like all games we spoke about trying to keep them to a minimum. The team did a great job overall in very hot conditions keeping St Michaels to as many single runs and dot balls as possible. William Dobson got a maiden wicket in his first over whilst Louis, Henry and Elliot all took a wicket each also. The team encouraged each other throughout which is something we said was important at the start given the heat its hard to stay focused for so long!

After a quick cool down and plenty of water we were back out for our innings! Joe and Louis started us off with a solid 25 runs between them. No stopping Joe after the Great Preston game as he got another 6. Elliot and Harry were up next and like their last game together got a number of single runs which were great especially given the excellent bowling from St Michaels. William D and William B were excellent and were unlucky not to score more but still manged to get 22 runs between them. The last 4 overs were the most exciting of the game with some excellent batting from Henry and Maxwell only to be matched by the best fielding we had seen all year from another team. The game came down to the last bowl which was hit well but caught even better by St Michaels! Crazy but exciting finish!

St Michaels team and coaching staff were great and we took a lot from the experience we can work on in training! A special thanks to our scorers on the day!
