League: Leeds and Wetherby
After a number of the team had been out due to isolation we are all pleased to be back! Think the coaches were more excited to be back out there than the kids :)
This evenings game was away against Great Preston for the last time this season. The sun was out and Joe Gibbs captained the team.
Great Preston won the toss and opted to field first leaving Carlton to bat. Continuing their partnership Joe and Marcus batted first and scored an unbelievable 50 runs between them with one wicket against. Joe got the highest individual score of the day with 35 which included 5 6's!! Harry and Elliot were out together again for a second time and showed a great deal of confidence communicating throughout scoring an important number of single runs. Henry and Maxwell continued their partnership and scored a very good 22 runs which included a 6 for Henry. Arthur and Maxwell finished off the innings with an impressive 30 runs to get Carlton to a score of 293!
We talked about two things before it was our turn to field. First was to continue to reduce the amount of wide and no balls given. The second was to always make sure someone was backing up at the wicket. The team did an excellent job overall taking 12 wickets of which 5 were from catches. No special mention to anyone in particular. It was a game that they were all involved in equally and it was a pleasure as a coaching team to see these kids come so far in such a short time!
We have played Great Preston a few times this year and they are a top team with some really supportive coaches and parents. We wish them well for the rest of the season.
Final score Great Preston 222 Carlton 293
This leaves us now with only 2 games left in the League which will be against Oulton at home on the 25th and Methley away on the 1st August. Link to the league table for reference!
One last thing…Unfortunately Luca Darling had to isolate and wasn’t able to play the match as intended! It was a special day for Luca and the team wanted to give him a message 😊
