League: Leeds and Wetherby
Not often is comes down to the last game of the season to decide on who wins the league but it did for our Under 9s!
The last game of the season was against Methley away and Louis captained the side, winning the toss and opting to take to the field first.
Henry got the team off to the perfect start taking 3 wickets in his first over and added another a little later in his second! His bowling has really come on this season and this was a result of all the hard work put in. Well done Henry! Joe and Maxwell followed this up with another 2 excellent wickets whilst Marcus took 2 amazing high catches to limit the amount of runs scored on the back of some excellent batting from Methley!
This was the best we had seen the team field all season. All of the team played their part! They were talking, backing each other up, covering the stumps and most importantly seemed to be having fun. All this made a huge difference and kept a good Methley side to single runs leaving their innings score to 220.
Going in to bat we knew we would be up against some tough bowlers so we spoke about how important it would be to defend our wickets and take single runs. Our ever faithful partnership of Joe and Marcus continued to have its success. The pair scored 31 one collectively with Joe finding the boundary twice. Henry and Maxwell were up second scoring 17 of which 13 of them were singles keeping to the game plan. William and Luca who are two of our year 3s were just excellent scoring an impressive 26 after a slightly nervous start. The boys got four boundaries between them! Excited to see this pair continue with our under 9s next year! The innings was finished of with Louis and Arthur. I think we were all shocked to see these two come and play the most defensive game we have ever seen them play. They clearly knew the importance of their role and what they needed to do for the team. The boys got 9 runs together which were all singles! great work you two!
It's an absolute pleasure for us as coaches to share this moment with them and to see how quickly they have developed. Rewind three months and the majority of our kids had never played cricket before! What we have achieved together is great for the club and sport. We really hope they have all enjoyed the season and that they all come back to have another shot next year!
Obviously this was only one of many games this season. Well done and a huge thanks to all who have been involved in games this season!! Very much a team effort!
