*Champions of Yorkshire*
Carlton 262
beat New Rover 248
By 14 runs.
Well, where to start after today’s performance. I needed a few hours to calm down and collect myself! New Rover were by far the best team we have come up against, with some fantastic individual players.
We were up against it from the start, but dug in and scrapped right to the end. For a team sport, cricket can be a very unforgiving and lonely game at times, but Each boy stood up and took their turn to deliver. The tension was quite something at the end and how they all held it together was unbelievable.
Obviously the pandemic has affected all of us one way or another, but today was a perfect end to a shortened and very intensive season.
All of you (parents and boys) have been brilliant in your effort and support. Special mention to Jemma for her scoring skills and Rich (and Logan) for coaching 13 of the 14 games! We are lucky to have such a great group and I hope you all have taken something from it; particularly in these difficult times.
No doubt there will be other big days to come for these lads, but todays win was something that I’m sure we will always remember.
In 7 weeks we have played 14 games, winning 11, drawing 1 and losing 2. Not only were we Leeds league champions, but we have beaten the Wetherby Champions (New Rover), and although the Heavy Woollen fixtures (Saturday) were only friendlies, we would have finished at least joint top of that league also.
