cricket_ballThe Carlton Under 17`s rounded off their season in fine style winning their last five games to finish in a very creditable fourth position in the Heavy Wollen League. The team improved throughout the season winning seven and losing three matches, only one game was rained off and we had to concede the away fixture at Ossett.

The team was competitive despite exams, Rugby tours, South American expeditions, proms, driving tests, work, holidays and even football in July affecting players availability. The squad coped well and many thanks must go to the players from the under 15 team who filled in admirably on many occasions. Eighteen players were used in total.

The team were very good in the field on most occasions and some great catches were taken. There was real strength in depth in the bowling department, a minimum of six bowlers were used in every game, seven in most and eight in a great win away at Altofts.

The nature of the match format is not ideal for the batsmen, 20 over games with a batsman not retiring until they reach 50 runs often meant that only a few players got a chance at the crease. Our top order rarely failed and when the opportunity was presented the middle order came good, the win away at Wrenthorpe with batsmen 7,8 and 9 smashing the team to victory was a very pleasing batting performance.

The team was always well supported by a knowledgeable group of parents. The club are looking for parents and players to help manage, run, organize and coach the junior teams next season and beyond and are offering to pay for coaching training/qualifications for those interested. A great addition to any CV. if you would like to assist the club as it strives to continually improve the junior cricket experience then please contact David Ford at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Finally a special thank you to Nick Busby, Dan Curley, Jordan Hartley,George Hulme, Ben James and Cole Pagett who have represented the club with great distinction and ability at Junior level over several years. They have been part of a Junior squad that has won three trophies and have always played the game in a competitive and fair manner. They have been a credit to the club at Junior level and are already beginning to impress in the senior teams.
