The Marsdin (U15) Knock Out Cup Competition Round 3
CARLTON U15 REACH FINALS DAY OF THE MARSDIN TROPHY COMPETITION WITH A COMPREHENSIVE VICTORY OVER LEAGUE LEADERS TOWNVILLE
Carlton (U15) 125-5 V 96 Townville (U15)
Unbeaten Townville were the visitors in the quarter final of the Marsdin Trophy and taking into account Carlton’s indifferent start to the season Townville were the clear favourites to progress to the latter stages of the competition.
Batting first, Carlton once again lost early wickets and appeared destined for another low score until Cole Pagett and Nick Busby came together. They completely dominated the Townville attack with a combination of good shot selection and some powerful hitting in a fourth wicket stand of 66 with Nick making 38 n.o. and Cole contributing 37 n.o. before both players reached the compulsory retirement score. Daniel Parker contributed a brisk 16 and helped by a generous number of extras Carlton were able to close on 125 for 5, setting the visitors a challenging total.
Townville began well, despite another economical spell of bowling from Daniel Parker and looked on track before some hesitation from the opening pair and a good pick-up and throw from Cole Pagett resulted in a welcome run out for the Carlton fielders. Helped by some excellent outfield catching, particularly from Jack Griffiths and some fine support bowling in the middle of the Townville innings from Ben James (2 for 8) and James Murrell (3 for 16) Carlton began to dominate. It was left to Jordan Hartley (2 for 9) and Jack Griffiths (1 for 15) to wrap up the Townville innings for 96 and give Carlton a well-deserved victory.
The Carlton team will now take part in Finals day on Sunday 15th June at Mirfield Cricket Club where they will meet New Farnley in the First Semi Final starting at 10:00 am. The second Semi Final sees Gomersal take on Wakefield Thornes or Liversedge from 1:00 pm on the same day and the winners of each game will play the Final from 4:30 pm.
