14 November 2011
Carlton will be starting 2 new junior teams in the 2012 season at U9 and U11 age groups. The U9s will play non-competitive softball matches, group festival cricket and participate in a 'knockout' cup competition all organised by the Heavy Woollen District Junior Cricket League (HWDJCL). The U11 team will play hard ball cricket in the HWDJCL and participate in their own cup competition.
Coaching for the 2 new teams starts on 5 January 2011 at one of our indoor venues, Rodillian School, Wakefield, WF3 3PS. The U9 practice session will run from 18:30-19:30 and the U11 team will train alongside our U13 team from 19:30-20:30. As we must meet the correct ratios for coaches and children we do need you to register your interest in attending before this date rather than just turning up on the night. Please contact David Ford via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to attend.
No equipment is required, but if you do have your own, by all means bring it along with you. You will just need to wear suitable indoor training shoes, tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt.Carlton CC have always provided junior coaching free of charge in the past but due to Government cuts we are now charged £1200 each year for use of the indoor training facilities. As these are new teams and we want to encourage participation we are offering 2 free sessions to see if the children take to the game. The U9 training will then cost £2 weekly for each session they attend of the 13 weeks up to and including 29 March. Rodillian closes during the school holidays so there is no training on 16 February. The U11 charges will align to the other age groups which is an upfront charge of £25 following the initial free sessions. Following the indoor practice we will move outside onto the field at the cricket club from April.
Junior subscriptions for an annual membership for the whole family is £35 for the year to be paid at a Registration evening prior to the start of the season which is usually the last week of April or 1st week in May. The season then runs until the beginning of August with the Cup Finals taking place at the end of August. The junior subscription cost includes all outdoor training and match fees for the whole year so compared to other sports such as football our subscription rates are very low and are set to purely cover the running of the team/club.
We do not want these costs to prohibit any children from being involved in the game so if this is a problem then please contact David using the details above to discuss.
