Junior Cricket Practice

Junior Cricket FlyerCarlton will be starting 2 new junior teams in the 2012 season at U9 and U11 age groups. The U9s will play non-competitive softball matches, group festival cricket and participate in a 'knockout' cup competition all organised by the Heavy Woollen District Junior Cricket League (HWDJCL). The U11 team will play hard ball cricket in the HWDJCL and participate in their own cup competition.

Coaching for the 2 new teams starts on 5 January 2011 at one of our indoor venues, Rodillian School, Wakefield, WF3 3PS. The U9 practice session will run from 18:30-19:30 and the U11 team will train alongside our U13 team from 19:30-20:30. As we must meet the correct ratios for coaches and children we do need you to register your interest in attending before this date rather than just turning up on the night. 2011 Senior Presentation Night

Start of the Phil Page Presentation Evening! Thanks to everyone who attended the senior presentation night at the club and to everyone who helped organise and put on the event. It was very well attended by players and supporters and the night was really enjoyable. Keith Taylor Snr handed out the awards and was a reminder to Phil Page that he will need to achieve over 1000 runs in a season more than once to top the record books at Carlton! Keith Taylor Jnr and the Tea Ladies had their own spin on an awards ceremony with some more light hearted awards. Mr Page also confirmed that what they say about teachers is not all true by putting his summary of the season into a 'poem' which can now be found in full on the forum here. More pictures of the evening can also be found in the gallery here.

2011 CYCL Prizewinners

Jonny Rudge 2011 CYCL Division 1 Bowling PrizewinnerThanks to those who represented Carlton CC at the League Dinner last Friday. It was a very successful evening with Carlton scooping 4 awards on the night. Phil Page won the Vernon Grace Trophy for the Division 1 Batting Prize with 971 league runs and an average of 64.73. Jonny Rudge collected the G D Wolfenden Trophy for Division 1 Bowling with 46 wickets and an average of 11.17 which was not bad at all in only 12 matches rather than the full season of 22. Michael Hodgkins also won the G S Cooper Trophy for Division 3 Bowling with his figures of 52 wickets at an average of 10.48. Jamie Hardcastle from Mirfield PC did end the season with a very slightly better average but had not picked up the required 25 wickets in his 7 matches to qualify.

Carlton also picked up the Ground Maintenance Award for Divisions 1 & 2. Great credit goes to our new groundsman, Roy Ward, who's done a fantastic job and from the looks of the square already, is preparing a fine surface that I'm sure will be challenging Methley for their Premier Division Ground Maintenance Award next year.

U17 Presentation Night

Nick Busby - Albert Ward Trophy WinnerThe under 17`s wrapped up their season with a well attended presentation evening held at the club house. Emphasis was made on just how much of the team's success over the year was down to the squad as a whole. The team were delighted to be joined on the evening by Steve Cooper who will be coaching next seasons under 17`s, Steve was on hand to present the awards. It was great that both Richard Walker, first team manager and Keith Taylor second team captain also attended, this I think was a reflection on the positive input made this season by players from the under 17`s to the senior teams. A selection of pictures from the event can be found in the Gallery here.
